Points, Lines, and Planes Gallery Walk

This is probably one of my top 5 favorite activities of all time!

Directions:
1) Hang up the 10 posters around your room with the attached document right below (or you can use a big piece of butcher paper). You will need to print out 10 answer documents to hang below each poster.

2) Have students break up into groups of 2-3 and have them go to a designated number. If they started at group 3, they will write in box number 3 for every single poster. If this is too confusing, I have also attached a blank answer document where students can just write in any box with their marker (I hand each group a different colored marker).

3) For the first problem, set the timer to about 30 seconds and have groups "think-pair-share" and then write down their answer on the paper below the poster.

4) Now this is the tricky part, groups do NOT move once they write down their answer choice. Groups have to wait until the teacher gives them directions to move. Once the teacher says "move", students will rotate to the next poster and do step 3 again. However, they are NOT allowed to write down a previous answer that is on the answer document. For example, if the group before them wrote (Points A and G) for question 9, the next group is NOT allowed to write down that answer.

5) By the 10th question, it takes groups a little longer, so you will have to adjust your timer accordingly. I also have groups review previous work and put a "check or x" next to each answer they agree or disagree with. During the tenth question, I walk around and see where the most misconceptions were and then we review them together as a class.

I wish there were more geometry concepts where this activity could come in play at. Maybe identifying parts of a circle? Thoughts?

  2. I did this activity today and it was awesome! I love how the students have come up with a right answer that hasn't already been used - I heard awesome conversations that would never happen if students were just doing problems out of the book. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I'm sorry, I don't have an answer key to this activity since there can be up to 30 correct answers for one question. I normally grab the paper at the end and look over it and we go over any mistakes as a class.
