Triangle Congruence w/ Proofs Activity

I wanted to share an activity that we did last week that was really fun and engaging. I didn't feel like my students were ready to take their test on the team's "designated testing day" so I decided to stay late at work and come up with some additional activities.

1) Students logged onto a Nearpod session and we went over labeling and marking congruent triangles. I had students choose different colors to represent each separate marking. Below are some student examples pulled from my Nearpod report. This helped out my student SO MUCH! I did not realize how many misconceptions there were before this activity.






2) After our Nearpod activity, students broke up into groups of 2-3 and chose a proof to "start" at. I told students to complete only ONE step. After about 30 seconds, students rotated clockwise to the next proof and did the second step. This continued until they were back at their original poster. Students were responsible for checking the proofs and correcting any mistakes that they see. 

I graded all of the proofs (10 points a piece) and that was everyone's grade in the class period. Students took this seriously and the results were amazing!









Overall, students performed well on the test but they needed more practice on telling how two triangles are congruent (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, or HL).

  4. Hi, Thank you for sharing! I really like the look of this resource, but I can't work out how the students would be able to share their work with me? I've never used nearpod before, but I assume their answers have to be sent somewhere?

    Log onto Nearpod, select "My Library"



    -Go above the lesson you would like to share. Select the three dots and choose Share.





    -A pop-up window will appear. Type in the email address for the user you want to share it with.





    Once in the sharing screen, you can easily share the student view of the lesson (via email, direct link, social media and embedded code). You can also share editable versions. Select “Share an editable copy” in order to add the lesson to your colleagues’ Nearpod library. Keep in mind that this creates a duplicate version. No changes made by your colleague to their version of the lesson will have an impact on your version of the lesson.

    Your colleague will receive an email with a link to accept the lesson and add it to their Library."

  10. Thank you so much for sharing all your stuff. I taught Geometry for summer school and your resources were perfect! I am now planning to try the Nearpod lesson with my class this year. Can you share the lesson on the teacher end so I can make a copy to use with my students? Right now your link only seems to let me access the lesson from the students' end and I'm not able to add it to my library. I"m still new to Nearpod so if I'm missing something please let me know. Thanks!

  11. I think there is a mistake on Proof #1. It says the same thing twice in the given.

  12. Proof #1 seems to have a mistake, or I'm having a brain freeze. I don't see where the congruent angles are found.
